I have seen several options for radios to use for satellite work. I am using a Yeasu VX7 handheld and am hearing the satellite but not reaching them. I would like to work all of the satellites. I am saving money and looking for a radio. Once more what is the best radio to work the satellites and why do you think this. THANKS for the information in advance
Hi Folks.
This is just a reminder that its still not too late to book a place for the AMSAT-UK Colloquium, to be held at the Holiday Inn Guildford, SUrrey, UK. All the details are on our web site at http://www.uk.amsat.org/colloquium-2011/colloquium-2011
If you wish to book a place to stay overnight at the hotel, you're probably still not too late, but dont delay, I dont think the hotel have many rooms left! The contact details are +44 (0) 1483 784418 or rachael.cross@ihg.com
Whereas walk-ins for the presentations, etc on the day are acceptable, if you are intending to attend the Saturday Night Gala dinner and NOT stay overnight at the hotel, then please phone the hotel on pre-book, it makes it much easier for them and us to know the numbers beforehand. ;-)

Best suggestion... Go to amsat website and order the book "getting started in amateur satellites" by Gould Smith, WA4SXM. This book is a great primer and answers all your questions. The "what is the best radio?" question has been answered so many times on the BB. Look back at the archives of the BB (also at the website) and find out. Radios use are a personal item -Portable? Base? Mobile? In the end, whatever you feel comfortable with using is THE radio to use. Have fun... 73, Dee, NB2F

I was recently asking the same question. I found an ICOM IC-821H at a bargain price and it works great without having made a major expenditure.
