That is absolutely true!  Amateur radio equipment does not meet the certification requirements for use on any frequencies outside of the amateur radio bands.  Even though a number of amateur radio operators do modify the equipment to use outside of the amateur radio bands, transmitting on those frequencies is definitely illegal. Now, it is perfectly legal for an amateur radio operator to re-tune, modify, etc., certificated equipment to operate on amateur radio frequencies.  It is also legal for certificated equipment, except for 47 CFR Part 95 Subpart D ("CB") certificated equipment, to be used on both commercial two-way frequencies and on amateur radio frequencies.  "CB" equipment is different.  If such equipment is modified to use on any frequency besides the 40-channels, the certification, of that particular unit, is revoked and, therefore, cannot be used anymore for CB purposes. Equipment certificated for FRS, etc., are to be used on frequencies allowed by that radio service.  Now, the units can be modified, by a licensed amateur radio operator, and used on amateur radio frequencies.  However, in virtually every case, the modifications violate the certification of the unit and, therefore, the unit can no longer be used for the original radio service. Glen, K9STH

Bit isn't it against the law for an amateur to modify and transmit on CB freqs, and or FRS freqs using a modified amateur radio? As in one can only TX CB freqs on a actual CB rig and FRS on only a FRS rig....?......
