Re: Need advice on circular polarized antennas
Hi Joe,
I've found another article on a Polarization Switcher. It's referenced in the I8CVS papers. I've added it to the dropbox for I8CVS. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/ne4o6ham0xfwovfdz004a/h?rlkey=sl2jswt7mlf1fnw...

Thanks for sending the articles, Terry. It’s a clever design, and the relays don’t look too expensive. Maybe there’s even less expensive ones that would be suitable for the low power (< 10 W) used for satellite communications. It’s great to see what other hams have come up with.

Hi Joe,
The late Domenico I8CVS, designed a switcher that used horizontal and vertically polarised yagis to obtain circular polarization, both RHCP and LHCP as well as horizontal and vertical. It was described in the AMSAT Journal March/April 2007 and May/June 2007. I've put the articles in dropbox here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/ne4o6ham0xfwovfdz004a/h?rlkey=sl2jswt7mlf1fnw...
Many years ago I made up a couple of these for the FM Broadcast band and can confirm that the switching system works fine.
Merry Christmas and 73,

I’m looking for some advice on antennas for 2 m/70 cm satellite operation. Presently, I have home-brew yagis for each band, horizontally polarized. To eliminate fading due to satellite rotation, I want to replace these antennas with circularly polarized ones. But the new antennas need to be relatively lightweight, because I have to lug them up on a ladder to mount them, and, well, I’m not as young as I used to be. I have been considering the WiMo circular polarized antennas (#18010 and 18011), but would first like to hear from people who have experience with them. I like to build things myself, but the WiMo design looks cleverer than anything I’ve been able to come up with so far. Any advice? Thanks!
