Under what conditions can I expect to see satellites? Evening after sunset but with sun still shining on the LEO objects?

Under what conditions can I expect to see satellites? Evening after sunset but with sun still shining on the LEO objects?
Well, for me tonight it was (a) a beautiful, clear sky and (b) about an hour after the sun setting - on a (c) high-elevation directly- overhead pass.
It wasn't the brightest object visible - but it sure was dramatic!
