Well, that may be, but I read the Field Day rules, and as we all know, Field Day is NOT a "contest". If other rules override the Field Day rules, it should be widely published, or mentioned in the Field Day rules, which it aint.
Yes, it is... Field Day rule 9.2:
9.2. See "General Rules for All ARRL Contests," "General Rules for All ARRL Contests on Bands Below 30 MHz," and "General Rules for All ARRL Contests on Bands Above 50 MHz" for additional rules (www.arrl.org/contests/forms ) that may cover situations not covered in these Field Day rules.
I agree that making more than one contact violates the *spirit* of the rules, but NOT the written Field Day rules.
Did you read THIS year's Field Day rules? It doesn't get more explicit than this:
7.3.7.1 Stations are limited to one (1) completed QSO on any single channel FM satellite.

George, This rule seems to allow only one contact on ANY FM bird. Most are interpreting this as one contact on EACH FM bird. Which is it? KC8ZFN John
As many interpretations as this FD rule and its subsection has elicited only points to a badly written rule.
For the purposed of FD was AO-51 a "7.3.7.1. ... single channel FM satellite"? It's a rhetorical question folks... No replies necessary. But a review of the AMSAT "AO-51 Monthly Schedule" web page shows that AO-51 was running on 2 channels - Channel A V/U and Channel B L/U :-)
Sorry for stirring the pot folks, but, just couldn't resist.

From the ARRL Letter, June 22, 2007:
"Keep in mind two minor rule changes for Field Day 2007. First, while working for the satellite contact bonus, you are limited to making only one QSO when using any of the single-channel FM satellites. This will allow more stations to access this very limited resource. "
Clear as mud....
From Drew's AO-51 Field Day configuration notice dated 3/29/2007:
"As a reminder, both the AMSAT and now ARRL Field Day rules state only one completed QSO per FM repeater satellite. Please adhere to this rule so that others may have an opportunity to make a QSO. "
Clearly says *PER* FM satellite, and states the purpose of the rule.
Dual-transponder question on AO-51 answered by Bruce on 3/30/2007:
"one per transponder on a single channel fm satellite. as two transponders are active, you can make one contact on v/u and one on l/u."
Again, one *PER*.
Maybe we should contact the ARRL people who are the keepers of the Field Day rules, and have them bring theirs into line with ours. Jim KQ6EA
