Re: [amsat-bb] Unsuccessful Uplinks - AO-92
I agree about the Baofengs being somewhat deaf. In the past, I was able a few times to work SO-50 with the UV3R that I used to carry...and recently the UV5RA and dual-band whip has been used during the day while I'm out working. I thought that AO-91/92 sounded pretty good. That is, until I hooked up my 40 year old IC-2AT to my turnstile. AMAZING how well the ancient Icom can hear. Who knew?!

FYI - using a preamp in front of the Baofeng will make an amazing improvement.
I have used VOX T/R preamps that cost 10x the price of the Baofeng - but it is a game changer.
Is anyone using the Baofeng for TX only and an SDR (Funcube Dongle) for RX? This seems like a good setup.
