I propose that AMSAT-NA start charging to post on the BB. My proposal goes something like this;
to be able to post on the AMSAT-BB, the individual posting must link a PayPal account or Valid Credit Card that AMSAT-NA can charge each time that they post on the BB.
The fee schedule would be as follows: Members; $1.00 per post, Non-members; $1.50 per post, a monthly charge for members of $60.00 per month for unlimited posts for that month and non-members a monthly charge $100.00 for the same unlimited monthly posting. Then there could be an annual charge to members of $500.00 for 1 year of unlimited postings or for non-members an annual charge of $750.00 for unlimited postings.
Finally we could sell Lifetime Posting Privileges for a one time fee of $5,000.00 for members and non-members a charge of $7,500.00.
These fee schedules are in line with many of the other organizations and just think of the funding that could be brought in for launching new satellites!!
Heck we could have HEO's, MEO's, LEO's and NEO's. There aren't enough engineering schools in the world to help us build the satellites. In the last month alone the fees would have funded putting a linear transponder on the MOON!
This is just one simple man's idea of how we could raise the money to get us some more Satellites in orbit!! Heck, we are being charged for everything else why not tap into this valuable resource and raise some money for a good cause!
And you folks thought it would be tough to raise the money!
The simple ideas are always the best!

This begs the question (one that is of interest for more than this reason): Who is a member, as far as this list is concerned?
I mean, would members of AMSAT-DL have to pay the member rate, or the non-member rate? AMSAT-UK? AMSAT-NZ? AMSAT-VK? CAMSAT? What if I form AMSAT-BB?
I realize that the list is operated by AMSAT-NA, but it doesn't call itself the AMSAT-NA-BB. So is this list supposed to be for all AMSAT members, globally? Or are members of other AMSAT groups to consider themselves outsiders, from the point of view of posting privileges, fees, credibility, etc, etc?
To All This is a great way to reduce the posts to a quantity approaching "0" Could AMSAT save money? 73, Art, KC6UQH

I would reduce the paid up members fee to free, raise the dues a little if you want to, to make up for it...
Everybody has to use their AMSAT.org call sign, this would establish the current paid up database.
For Non paid up members you could charge anything you want...up to you...even sell monthly or yearly privileges...at whatever rate.
Responders to questions could choose to answer direct at no cost or to the BB at the going rate determined by their paid status.
Those who want copies of responses could ask for them and be included in non personal replies.
Different AMSAT organizations could provide members in "good standing" lists to the central clearing house "paid" members list.
Lastly, give a senior discount...oops, there goes all the money....forget the senior discount.

That's quite a suggestion. But the point of a bulletin board is the free exchange of knowledge over the internet. If you start charging money to use the board, that whole concept gets negated. Your idea could work, but I have the feeling most people would just move to another location that's free.

Taking suggestions like this seriously (surely it was a joke - sarcasm and humour can be hard to read) only makes us look foolish.

This proposal, while hopefully in jest, sounds just like a typical government tax. If there are "X" amount of posts and we charge "Y" amount per post, then we'll raise "Z" amount of money.... right ?? Because as we all know, everyone continues doing the exact same thing when a tax is imposed so the amount raised is practically automatic !! :)

The simple... LOGICAL.. ideas are always the best. :)

Hi, K4FEG
In many years of my activity on AMSAT-BB I have seen many time similar proposals never actuated for a good reason...........in a very short time the activity on the BB board will became "0" and AMSAT members and non-members will migrate in a new board that will be created to communicate for free.
