Hello All,
We are receiving reports that AO-51 appears to be down. Hopefully one of us can get it going again this afternoon/evening.
Eclipses are still getting longer, and the sun angle is getting worse, too. It probably has experienced a low battery trip (least we hope it's that simple...)
Please watch and post on http://oscar.dcarr.org/
73,
AO51 still appeared to be down during the 1922z pass. I only monitored half of the pass, but I never heard a carrier.

73,
I am so excited right now that I can barely type because I'm dancing a jig.
AO-51 was working fine for the 2158Z, 4-13-2011 pass over my QTH (EM95md) during which I made my FIRST successful satellite QSO ever with K8YSE. Thank You K8YSE!!
My apologies to K8YSE for getting a bit tongue-tied but I was so excited to hear him repeat my call sign back and ask for the QSL that I about swallowed the microphone :-) What makes it even better was the fact that I make it a point of recording the passes so I have an audio recording of my first AO-51 QSO.
A big thanks to K6LCS (Clint) and his web site http://web.me.com/clintbradford/k6lcs/Home.html for all the tips and inspiration to give satellites a try.
WooHoo!!!!!!

Hi Steve,
Unfortunately, there is no known cure for the bug that just bit you. You will have to put up with the side effects for the rest of your life. ;-)
Congrats!

John K8YSE was my first satellite contact also and I am betting for many others. At the time I wasn't aware of the site with the recordings. It was an early morning pass and by the time I went to work and checked email he had looked up my address and sent me a link to the recording. Way beyond the call of duty. Maybe there should be an award for delivering the most "first contacts" WAV or WASC? have fun deciding what the acronyms mean and congrats on your first contact, KN4GE

Steve,
People like you are the reason that Drew KO4MA and I dropped what we were doing/ran home from work early today to turn AO-51 back on.
Happy to hear about your first QSO! Congrats.
Hope to catch you in the log.

Congrats, Steve! It's a feeling you will never forget. (Mine was 18 years ago - RS-10 - and I can still remember like it was yesterday.)
