I am working on a deadline today - I just need a couple of you to reply ...
Regarding SatPC32 ...
Would you recommend SatPC32 for a "newbie" to the FM satellites for tracking?
Easy to update AMSAT keps?
Easy to set up home coordinates? (Still need to register to have that preference stick, I believe.)
THANK YOU!

I'd recommend Orbitron. It's free and perfectly adequite for most.

Orbitron hasn't been maintained/updated for six years ... I need to promote wares that are currently supported and maintained ... Because *I* do not want to handle tech support calls for older software! (grin)

Why does it need updating if it's not faulty?
It doesn't get, and never has, anywhere near as many people on here complaining that they can't understand it and make it work as SatPC32 does.

Excellent point, Nigel.
But my presentations are geared to folks who may not be as, well, adept at things compared to you and I. And, because I offer complete contact info to them for support (Including home and cell telephone numbers), I'd really not try to work out a software problem - when the publisher offers nothing ...
Heck - Although I playfully admonish audiences to "Back out the hours to compensate for GMT when you use AMSAT's online satellite predictor BEFORE you call me ... " - I still get an occasional call at 1:00 or 2:00AM from a new "friend" who is out in his back yard, thinking '51 is passing overhead ...
And so it goes.
(grin)

THANK YOU - Between public replies here, a phone call, and private emails, you folks provided what I needed in less than eight minutes.
AMSAT should find a way to charge for such a valuable reference/database!

One thing you might want to consider is the online tracking sites like the AMSAT site and the N2YO site. I had a lot better luck with them than the downloadable utils like SATPC32 when I first started working the FM birds. If I got the times rights, the online sites were more accurate than the pc based utils even with up to date keps.
