AO-51 Sputnik 50th Anniversary Event
Good Evening,
Everything is set for our Special Event on Wednesday night. Please listen on the following passes of AO-51 over North America to hear original Sputnik 1 telemetry via AO-51:
October 3, ~2350 to ~2358 UTC October 4, ~0127 to ~0145 UTC ~0308 to ~0326 UTC ~0452 to ~0503 UTC
From ~2350 to ~0505 UTC AO-51 will not be available outside of the Sputnik
downlink over North America.
The downlink frequency will be 435.300 plus or minus doppler shift, and the downlink power will be higher than the normal repeater levels.
There will be a nice QSL certificate available by sending reception reports and a 9"x12" SASE to 3375 Taper Ave, San Jose, CA 95124, USA. Please allow several weeks for turnaround time.
I hope everyone enjoys this event, and thanks to all that have helped put it together.

Drew,
Will the rest of us have an opportunity to hear the downlink?
"Us" being the rest of the World?

Since there is no way to store audio onboard the satellite, we are relaying it from ground stations across the US and Canada. I offered it to some European stations who declined due to differences in amateur radio regulations in their countries. However if there are any well equipped AO-40 class L band stations with the ability to playback an audio .wav file that are available between the start and finish of the event, and that are personally known to me, I will share the information and file with them. Interested stations should contact me directly, as soon as possible.
This was the first time we've done something like this in a long time, so the intent was to keep it small and simple, but certainly not to exclude anyone.
