I'm having a snow day! One of the joys of life in South Dakota! Don't worry it costs me a day of vacation time. I knocked the dust off my ic-1271 and worked myself on AO-51 as she went by. Has anyone played with computer controlling and IC-1271? My radio does not have the IC-EX309 interface unit. I believe that means it will not even accept (CI-V) /TTL level commands in its current state as there is no connection for them. Has anyone gone down this road, and solved computer control of an IC-1271?
Thanks and 73,
Joe kk0sd
Gary, I have been working down this road as well and tried many methods. You can't use CI-V unless you have the UX-14 installed. I didn't ever add that to mine and you can't find it hardly ever anymore. So I found this http://www.piexx.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7&produc... from Piexx. I contacted Chris at Piexx and he said the board has not been used in a 1271, but would work. He would need a 1271a shipped to him as he doesn't have one and needs to read and set some settings in the firmware to understand the freq's of the 1271a. I said that would be fine, but then found out it sounds like the 1271 is not controllable with HRD (Ham Radio Deluxe) even though the IC-751a appears to be and Piexx's board works with HRD.
So while I want to send it to Piexx and get the board installed I wanted to find software that would work with Chris' board and have not yet found that.
I haven't given up, but took a break as some new D-star toys came Friday and that is a little higher on the list right now to me. Please let me know what you find and I'll keep you up to date if I get it sent to Piexx.

Evening All!
I am sure there is an answer to this but I can't immediately think of one so here goes!
Whilst listening for AO-7 just a while back to see if it was in mode A or B (it was A), I noticed that SatPC32 showed the orbit number of AO-7 as 56325. Another copy of SatPC32 that I have on another PC also shows this.
On the AO-7 log page, the latest entry, shows as orbit number as 56337
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Joe,
I looked into this recently, as I also have an IC-1271A, and have automated everything else in the shack. Same problem as you, no CI interface in the rig. Without one, it appears that the only control you might be able to try is some sort of up/down control via the mike buttons.
Since my main satellite rig is a Yaesu 736R, I decided it would be easier and more convenient to find a 23cm module for the Yaesu instead of trying to upgrade or lash up something to the ICOM. I managed to secure one over this past weekend, and all the automation now applies to L-band as well. (Well, almost... I had to fix a bug in my CAT program that talks to Predict, but that was easy.)
So, I know that's not what you were looking for, but it ended up being the right answer for me. Tx power is the same (by spec; I haven't measured either directly), and I was able to get into AO-51 without too much difficulty. Full quieting with QSB, even though I have a helix antenna.
Good luck,
Greg KO6TH
p.s. The ICOM is available, if anyone is interested...
