Hi All,
Can anyone tell me how to decode the telemetry from AO27?
I have tried to use MIXW in Packet mode and RTTY mode, but all I seem to get is the date and nothing else? I even tried to feed it through AGWE to see if that would work.. I use AO27 all the time and use a minidisc recorder to record my passes, and always capture the telem data at the end.. it would be good if someone could help me out on this one?
Thanks,
Chris

Hi Gould,
Thank for that, I have looked at that page before, but its the actual decoding that I cannot seem to do.. I cannot quickly turn my TNC on when I am in voice mode, hence I though i could translate the recording so to speak..
Just for reference, I can only use my TH-D7 portable as I have no room for antennas at home..
thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,
You can use your recording of the telemetry data. Simply connect the recording output into your modem. AMRAD hasn't published the telemetry decoding equations, so you have to use their software to convert the data to their format and send it in to them for analysis.
Even though you can decode and store the data, the data is not very useful to you since you can't equate particular channels and values.

Hi Chris,
yes, I agree that.
But I think it should be no secret and "we" can ask AMRAD or the AO-27 team for this telemetry equations.
There are some solutions to generate a KISS file with soundcard based software (e.g. MixW32). It is only few hours of programming-work in order to generate the real telemetry data from a KISS File - IF you knows the equations of the channels.
I believe then it would be much easier to collect telemetry -> world-wide!

Hi Chris,
I think it's impossible the receiving of TLM without a TNC (hardware).
I tried also with "standalone" 1200Bps AFSK softwares for packet radio (like MIXW etc) without success.
And yes, the TLM is "ON" just for a few seconds at the beginning (and at the end) of each "active" pass.

Hi,
You can analyze this AO-27 telemetry (KISS frames) and you see the simple structure
1 Byte channel number + 1 Byte channel value (starting with Channel nr 07)

AO-27 is similar to IO-26 (or the other microsats AO-16 ... AO-19).
If someone of the AO-27 team could check this?
