Re: [amsat-bb] Thank you - VUCC
Got my SAT-VUCC #235, Oct 31, 2012
Was lazy and never got around to applying before that - HIHI.
(VUCC for SAT is for QSOs dated 1/1/83 and later)
First SAT QSO was 10/16/77 with W1ECH on AO-7 CW 2M/10M.
73, Bob K8BL (AMSAT #6593, since 1979)
P.S. When did others have their First SAT QSO & details?

First satellite QSO was with AC0RA, February 2, 2015, on SO-50.
Received VUCC Satellite #412 on December 18, 2018.
Most contacts were on the FM birds using handhelds and an Arrow antenna.
A few were APRS QSOs via NO-84 and ISS.

Looks like my first contact was 9/8/77 on Oscar 7, orbit number 12870A, with W2RV. I had a KLM 2 meter SSB radio, an old Colins receiver, and a transverter for 432 attached to my Swan 500. Rotors were U100 tv rotors.

First satellite contact was in 2001 with XE1MEX on FO-29. Worked a few stations on F0-29, AO-14 and AO-27 that year but 6 was wide open and I stayed there most of the time. Had an Icom-901 but used it mostly for working 432/144 tropo. Never did really figure out how to use the satellite mode on the 901. Love today's software. I did work AL7QY on AO-14 in 2001 before going permanently back to uhf/vhf/6 meters. Lost my tower and suffering withdrawal pains from from lack of qso's, I picked up a pair of Baofeng toys, rebuilt the Arrow and the Bird Disease attacked with a vengeance!

Hi!
If we're talking first satellite contacts... I worked two DX stations for my first satellite contacts in March 2000, using the SO-35 "SunSat" FM satellite. The FO0AAA Clipperton DXpedition had mentioned they might work satellites, but they didn't show up. Instead, I worked XE1MEX and XE2YVW (now better known as XE2AT) using a pair of HTs and long whip antennas for my first satellite QSOs. I got QSL cards from both of them, and the QSO with XE1MEX is also confirmed in Logbook of the World. :-)
Other than one UO-14 contact in June 2003 (another DX QSO, with XE2BSS in Baja California), I didn't get the satellite "bug" until late 2005. I tried AO-51, and worked K7RQN who was about 10 miles away from me that December morning - my first non-DX satellite QSO. Still having fun with satellites...

I was first licensed in June of 1992, and spent almost exactly a year with my Tech Plus license not making many contacts. Local 2m contacts were limited to a few repeaters, as my home location in the foothills was at the bottom of a hill that blocked access to much of anything else. Skywave was the pits without sunspots. So the only way "out", was up.
First contact was with Mel KW7E, on that wonderful bird, RS-10, in June of 1993. Northern California to Arizona. All the credit for the successful contact went to Mel, as doing manual Doppler tracking was not yet a skill that I had. Also to Walt, WA6VNU (SK) who introduced many of us to the mystery of working satellites, and elmered me through getting those pesky "Keps" to work. Equipment was a Yaesu FT-767 and its 10 watt 2 meter module, to a copper pipe J-pole up on the roof. Downlink was through a Radio Shack DX-440 shortwave receiver, BFO turned on, fed by a long wire antenna strung out to a tree in the back yard.
Second contact stretched the continent to Tom KA2WMP in New York, and I was hooked.
