Did anyone else notice that the transponder downlink frequency is exactly on the center frequency of FO-29's uplink or that the Packet downlink was on the SO-50 uplink (without the 67Hz tone)??
Seems like this wasn't very well 'coordin ated'. I hope those freq's were misprints.

Hi NX9B
The man responsible for IARU frequency Coordination is ZS6AKV Hans Van de Groenendaal available as belove and he should take care of frequency coordination for IARU Region 1-2 and 3
Someone should complain with him.

... Now you get a new transponder (due to the low orbit for a very limited time) but some still grumble.

Jeff,
There is actually very little problem, and even an opportunity, in the frequencies.
FO-29 has a high inclination, while anything deployed from the ISS will be approximately 51 degrees. The overlap of the orbits will be few and short, and may give some interesting double hop opportunities.
SO-50 is a bit more problematic. It has a similar inclination to the ISS, and anything deployed from it. I didn't have time to do a careful calculation, but most of the time their footprints/mutual visibility will not overlap, except for an occasional period of 3-5 orbits.
Finally, anything deployed from the ISS will have a short lifetime, depending greatly on the altitude of the ISS when it is launched.
You can play with a good tracking program such as SatPC32 in multitrack mode to get an idea of how the orbits fit together.

Given there is only 200 kHz of spectrum available for satellites in the 144 MHz band it is unrealistic to think that each satellite can have their own exclusive frequency, sharing is necessary.
If you look at the launches planned for the end of the year you will see many other satellites with downlinks on 2m, there are 3 other satellites with linear transponder downlinks in 145 MHz planned for launch this year plus a number of others with beacon downlinks. Frequency sharing is a fact of life.
BTW there was a move in IARU Region 1 to get another 30 kHz of 144 MHz spectrum assigned to the satellite service. Has anyone in Regions 2 and 3 tried to get additional spectrum ? With the increasing number of satellites we need it.
