July 4: Another new AO-7 world distance record: 7903.55km, AC0RA and OM3BD break their own record
The 7849km AO-7 world record set by AC0RA and I on July 2 lasted less than 48 hours. Wyatt once again woke up early and this time drove 150 miles to EN41ad. We had a 30 second QSO at 0949Z to extend the record to 7903.55km. Thanks, Wyatt, this has been fun. Recordings, pictures, and further info at http://qsl.net/nz5n/AO7record.htm. 73, Bill OM3BD NZ5N
Sorry for short notice, 2 countries next pass, look for me around 145.960. 73, Bill
Guess the notice was too short, only worked EI5EV, no one else heard anywhere on the downlink. Guess the Americans were sleeping and the Europeans were setting up antennas for VHF Field Day, which will be starting in 2 hours.
This weekend I am with the OM3KII contest group at Velka Javorina in JN88uu, right on the border between Czech and Slovakia. Great location at 970m ASL. Noticed that the 2m and 70cm operating positions were close enough to be able to listen on 2m while transmitting on 70cm. Just wish I had thought about working the sats sooner. Maybe next year.
