Re: WD9EWK's first non-FM satellite QSOs today!
After months of trying to make a portable station that would allow me to work the SSB/CW satellites (first with an FT-817ND and AOR AR8200Mk2B wide-band receiver, then later with two FT-817NDs, all using my Arrow Antennas handheld Yagi), I finally made everything work...
Your attitude and enthusiasm continue to amaze me, Patrick - Great work!
I demo'd AO-51 yesterday morning before a club meeting of 63 folks. From Tarzana, CA we talked to Tennessee, West Texas, and, lo and behold, Athens, Georgia's own N3TL came through. It was a 4.1 degree of elevation pass for him. Let me repeat that, in case you thought there was a typo: FOUR POINT ONE DEGREES OF ELEVATION for Tim in Georgia. But he was cheating: he was using a full five Watts output on his Yaesu FT-60. I refuse to use high power during my demos...(grin)
And so it goes....

I'm using a VX-7R to run 5 watts QRO. It's a great little radio, and the Arrow antenna is way cool.

I'm using a VX-7R, Clint. You know that. Is your advanced age affecting your memory?
Martha tells me that the Journal was mailed out last week - has anyone else not received it or am I being an optimist in expecting it by now down here in SW FL?
Thanks in advance

David,
It arrived today here in the wilds of Tennessee, so don't give up hope yet. Well worth waiting for, BTW.

Hi David,
I just received mine today in east TN, but know that others received their copy last week. You should receive it shortly.

Hello Dave.
I work for a print shop that does mailings as part of their business.
It all depends on when the mailer gets the mailings from the printer. Then the mailer prints the addresses on the mailing and sorts them out into their respective zip codes. This then in turn gets sorted by state and regions. Then depending on how the mailing is set up, it is shipped to those states/regions via truck to the bulk mailing centers for the USPS and then they start the process in reverse. Sometimes it takes any- where from one to three days for those shipments to get from the mailer to the regional bulk mailing center and then they in turn may take up to three days to sort and send to respective zip codes.
Remember one thing, BULK mail is NOT a high priority like First class mailing, so it DOES take longer to get done.
Hope this helps out some.
