Re: [amsat-bb] AO-85 Verry bummed out
Your description sounds like you caught Fox-1a in high speed data mode. We are still doing some commissioning so expect mode switches without necessarily hearing any warning. If it sounds like "an old fashioned acoustic coupler" (and if you are old enough to know what that sounds like :-) try switching FoxTlm to high speed mode. For high speed mode you have to be especially careful that there is no LOW PASS filter in the path. You need 10KHz or more audio band pass. (For low speed you need to be able to hear down to 20-ish Hz.)

Very bummed out. So, just has a direct overhead pass. Still not able to decode any data. What was that wide banded high-pitched tone? The tone lasted almost a whole pass without a break. At first I did hear what sounded like a QSO, but almost impossible to understand. Anyone else having the same experience?

The tone I heard was a solid loud tone. And yes, I'm old enough to remember acoustic couplers. It definitely was not that type of a sound. I did hear the 9600k sound on a subsequent pass. I have given up on the the telemetry. I have tried my ICOM 7000, my Icom 910 my fun cube dongle my SDR play. Even on nice overhead passes I get terrible almost unreadable signals. Obviously I'm doing something wrong but I just have not put my finger on it. And forget the technical aspects of decoding, I'm talking about audibly. Even people attempting a QSO sound off to me. I'm going to attempt my first uplink maybe tonight or tomorrow to see how I sound on the return. I have no issues whatsoever on any of the other birds whether they are FM or SSB.
