How to use PC logging sofware with SatPC32?
I have been writing down satellite QSOs on scratch paper and then manually entering them into DXLab. I'd like to be a little bit more modern and efficient than that!
How are other people using their logging software with sat QSOs?
My FT-847 serial port is tied up with my sat tracking software SatPC32's Doppler correction feature so I'm not sure how to get the frequency data to the logging software.
Work around?

Bill,
I use VSPE, Virtual Serial Port Emulator, from Eterlogic.
http://www.eterlogic.com/Products.VSPE.html
It's free for a 32 bit platform. You'll use the Com port splitter function. Say Sat PC32 is using Com port #4 for rig control, you will map Com4 to a virtual serial port, Com14 for example, then point SatPC32 and your logging program to Com14. Simultaneous bi-directional traffic can occur so it's up to you to make sure that doesn't happen (allow the logging program to read the radio frequency but don't let it write to the Com port.)
I use it for exactly your stated purpose and it works great. There are other virtual serial port solutions as well, though I tried a few and this one worked best for me.

Thanks for the tip, Daryl. I may try that if I can't get SatPC32 talking through the 2nd Commander CAT port.

Hello Daryl!
I downloaded VPSE and that seems to be working. Thanks for the tip.
However, one thing, DXLog and Commander only seem to be getting VFO A info from the FT-847 even though it is in full duplex satellite mode. How to get DXLog to capture your RX and TX freqs?

Yes !
I also use this technique with VSPE Also.
Then you can have a multiple apps connected to your radios and rotors. Satpc32 can drive the system, then your logger can read the status and log frequency az el etc... In real time.
I use DXLab for logging, SatPC32 for tracking.
Thanks, Mike W4UOO

I've used this on the 64-bit version of Win 7 so I can run FLDIGI and the N3FJP logging program.
It tends to crash Win7 at 30~45 minute intervals, and I'm still looking in to it.
The 32-bit version runs fine.

Just for reference, I am using the 64 bit version of VSPE with Win 7 and haven't had any crashing problems.
I have also used it with FLDIGI and N3FJP...and SATPC32 simultaneously!

Yeah, I'm still looking into it, but haven't had much time lately.
It's on the station computer for NI6BB on the Battleship Iowa, and my regular Wednesdays get too busy doing other stuff. I'll have to take a day down there by myself and see what I can figure out.
It's never crashed while I was there. Always seems to happen when I step away to do something else.
Might be something as simple as how I have the screensaver/log-in set up......
