Does anyone have a suggestion to locate a simple procedure to upload files to a site?..
Roadrunner had one for years, and I've been keeping files I've acquired throughout the years in operating hamsats since good old OSCAR..
No fancy graphics, no pictures, just *.exe, *.jpg, *.zip, *. txt and that sort of thing using ftp
Roadrunner still has the space available free, but it will not let me upload the above.
Any suggestions appreciated....

You are saying that RR *won't* permit files of those types be transferred? If I have that right, RR is whacked and you need to find another ISP. Apologies to RR right now if I got that wrong.
The first and most stupid suggestion would be to rename a .exe file to .x or something, upload it and then rename it remotely.
Another alternative would be to get ssh for Windows (thats what you use, I think?) and use the "sftp" encrypted ftp to move things. It is slower, however than a normal insecure ftp.
I'm hoping that you're crashing into some other problem and it isn't that you aren't allowed to upload.

I use Filezilla. If you're a Linux man then you already have an FTP client provided. If your ISP doesn't allow you to FTP into your web space, get another IPS/hosting company.

Hi Dave,
As others have noted, every major operating system out there has an FTP client, but apparently that's not all that's required. What sort of error or denial message are you getting? That will guide the next step.

And don't forget about the command line client that's available in any WinXP dos box. Tedious, but it works in a pinch.

and i don't know for sure if it still does it, but Internet explorer could in the past work just like a FTP program also.

Some providers do restrict filetypes that may be used to propagate downloadable worms/virii.
Also, here at work we have normal FTP access, but discourage its use in favour of SFTP as userid/passwords are sent over the network in the clear with normal FTP.
Bye for now, John
