Contest on FM satellites?
To what extent can a competition or contest be allowed on FM satellites?, already saturated with traffic depending on the time or day of the week.
73 TI3IES.
The ARRL Field Day is allowed on them every year.

Since satellites are a shared and limited resource, contesting has long been prohibited by a gentleman's agreement dating to the 1970s. Field Day, and more recently Winter Field Day are notable exceptions, though for FM satellites, there's a one QSO per participant limit. And, technically, Field Day isn't a contest (though that really is a technicality).
Any contest that encourages participants to make a large number of FM satellite QSOs within a limited period of time is just asking for trouble. No responsible amateur radio authority or organization would sanction such an event.

Excellent policy…plus it helps prevent overzealous operators from running high wattage into the bird.

I agree with Paul. I don't believe contesting has a place on our VHF/UHF FM satellites.

When I first started as the Director of Contest and Awards for AMSAT in May, 2001, I was advised by the previous Director that there was a standing agreement between all the AMSAT's that the satellites would not be used for any type of contesting. This was so that the satellite's health would not be jeopardized. To this day, I abide by that agreement and know of no other AMSAT organization having a contest on the satellites.
Now, some might say well, all the AMSAT awards, ARRL VUCC, DXCC, WAS are contests. However, they do not force the use of one or more satellites on a particular day or week. Those seeking an award gradually accumulate their contacts over time. Field Day is a demonstration of emergency setup and operating and is only for a 24 hour period once a year. Sort of a contest but not really.
I will leave it at that.

But QO-100 is not a single channel FM satellite - it's a passband. The original question was all about using FM satellites.

They have already defined the conditions of the contest, it is a group from Mexico, see the details in this link https://twitter.com/xe1zd_amilcar/status/1532561000213278720?t=i_3gdqlZaYDxd...

Google translate english translation (without comment) for XE1ZD's post below.
International FM Satellite Contest 2022 Sugar Dx'ers Radio Club Bases and Rules Objectives of the contest: • Encourage more stations with a taste for satellite communication to be activated in Mexico. • Promote satellite transmissions under the ethical rule of 5 watts of power, so that more stations can participate in the passes during a foot print. • Arouse interest in radio listeners and future radio amateurs with LEO (low orbit) satellite transmissions. Rules: 1. Mexican and foreign stations can participate. 2. Ham stations can operate from a portable station, with a portable radio and the use of 5 watts. 3. The participating stations must send, to the email that is found at the bottom of these bases, a photograph of their transmission equipment, together with the Log of contacts made with the official SD stations. 4. The colleague who uses was of 5 watts will be disqualified. 5. The official SD stations (Sugar DX'ers) to be contacted will be 5 Mexican and 1 from the US, which will be identified with their callsign followed by the letters "SD" and their Grid Locator. Example: XE1YHP/SD, EK09 (Xray Echo One Yankie Hotel Papa, Stroke Sierra Delta, Echo Kilo 09) 6. The use of any model of antenna is allowed, as long as it is portable: Yagis, Moxon, Cilibicas, Deltas, Curculars, etc. 7. To guarantee legality, it is proposed to send a video of a QSO, (optional). The judges will verify with the reproductions if more power than allowed was used.
