Jamboree on the Air this weekend.
This weekend is the annual World Scouting "Jamboree on the Air" operating event. It is the largest annual Scouting activity worldwide. There will be hundreds of JOTA activations in North America alone, some, like me, will be helping Scouts make satellite contacts.
If you hear stations on the birds this weekend that are working JOTA, do make it a point to work them and give them space to work as well. Scouts find our activities making satellite contacts fascinating and some have gotten hooked on the hobby through demos and activations like JOTA.
I will be operating with N5EOC (NE Tarrant County ARC club call), at the Longhorn Council HQ facility in Hurst Texas during the day Saturday the 19th. I am sure besides Scouts coming to visit the event, there will be HQ staff as well and our operation, including Amateur Satellites, may be the first exposure to the hobby for some. Same goes for the other JOTA activations worldwide.
Hope to hear you on the satellites this Saturday for Jamboree on the Air. Give us a shout.
