FalconSat-3: UZ7HO's Soundmodem Full Duplex Mode?
All:
Regarding Falconsat-3:
I have two 9600 baud rigs connected to 2 separate sound cards. Each sound card is connected to a separate instances of UZ7HO's Soundmodem so each rig has it's own independent modem.
This setup works perfectly in the shack, but I quickly found out that I can't get each instances of Soundmodem to talk to the terminal program at the same time.
I tried using one instance of Soundmodem with one sound card on the output and the other for the input, but the input card mutes when you transmit on the output so it doesn't appear to work in full-duplex mode.
Maybe I'm missing something? Any way to work around this?

All:
I tried accessing Falconsat-3's BBS via PFS3-12 this afternoon, but I wasn't able to connect. I'm using Easyterm with an experimental full-duplex sound card modem by UZ7HO. This version has it's DCD disabled to allow full-duplex operation.
Assuming the BBS is turned on, are there any special parameters needed when using a simple terminal program? It would be nice to use Wisp again, but I don't see a way to use a sound card modem with this program.
Thanks,
Tony -K2MO
FalconSAT-3 uses the PACSAT broadcast protocol which doesn't work like a standard terrestrial packet BBS. A program like WiSP would be needed to manage the process of sending and receiving files and directory entries.
WiSP is designed for use with KISS TNCs via a serial port. Unfortunately, it appears that Soundmodem's KISS mode uses a TCP connection. I suppose a utility that could route the packets to and from a TCP port to a virtual serial port might work.

I'm told that there is a way to link a software modem to Wisp using virtual comports and KISS modem emulation. The experimental full-duplex UZ7HO's Soundmodem has a KISS port and I was wondering if someone can guide me through the process i.e., how to setup Wisp's TNC port, which VCP to use etc.
I already have Wisp setup for Falconsat-3, but it's been a LONG time since I've used the program. Any help would be appreciated.

I thought so Paul. I seem to recall someone posting something about Easyterm -- guess it was used to simply monitor Falconsat-3 traffic.

Some of our Japanese friends have had success with both APRS & the BBS via FalconSat-3. KO4MA has also figured out how to access the BBS, apparently.

Mark, N8MH and myself are both using PacComm Sprint-2 packet modems with WISP software.

Hey Tony!
Don't have an answer for you but I'm really glad to see your message. I have been experimenting offline with TX through the UZ7HO high-speed soundmodem using recorded FalconSat-3 9k6 data for my RX stream. However, I hit a roadblock with the DCD... I could only transmit when there was no incoming data detected, which is very rare!
As for your live, on-air testing, have you tried any APRS messaging transmissions instead of attempting to access the BBS?
Thanks!

Same here...
I asked Andy (UZ7HO) about this and he whipped up a full-duplex version of Soundmodem in a matter of hours. Works great with the DCD is disabled. If you send him an email, I'm sure he'll send you a copy. His email address is available on QRZ.

Plan on doing that on the next pass!
Thanks Scott...

Cool
Don’t forget to feed to APRS-IS !!

Tony,
You may be able to use the digi using Easyterm and High-Speed Soundmodem.
As Paul has said, you must use WiSP (or pb/pg) to use the PBBS. I no longer have 9600 baud TX capability, but back in the AO-51 days, I was able to use MixW with WiSP. MixW generates a virtual serial port KISS TNC, which can be coupled to WiSP using virtual serial ports. MixW is $50, but you get a 30 day trial. Another possible program is Dire Wolf. I have never used it that way, but the documentation of the latest version mentions a virtual serial port TNC emulation. That is free.
I expect that many of those using the PBBS are using hardware modems which support 9600 baud.

Alan WA4SCA
