2009 BoD Ballot - question
Received the AMSAT-NA BoD 2009 Ballot in day's US Mail (July 18). I perceive inconsistencies (potential confusion) in the Ballot Instructions and 2009 AMSAT Ballot.
Letter from AMSAT BoD, first paragraph .... "This year there are four positions up for election."
On 2009 BoD Ballot itself: "#2 Select no more than three of the four listed candidates ...."
Five candidates are listed <<
SELECT NO MORE THAN THREE
This is above listing of the Five candidates <<
============= Even though 4 BoD positions are open in this 2009 election, and 5 candidates are listed on the 2009 Ballot .... This means .... Only a maximum of 3 candidates may be chosen by an AMSAT member on the 2009 Ballot ?

Hi Greg,
It seems the printer "cut and paste" from last year's ballot, and we missed it on the proof. As I understand it, replacement ballots of a different color have already or will immediately be mailed.

Hello Greg and the BB,
There is an announcement on the front page of the AMSAT web site about the ballot problem. There will also be an announcement in this week's ANS. A new colored, ballot with correct instructions is being sent out and will be the one counted.
Sorry for the problem.

I listened for the W9JY-11 balloon on APRS, and for the 446.025 crossband repeater, and heard nothing... did it actually go up yesterday?

Yes.
There were actually 2 balloons with APRS beacons. The ATV video package did not make these launches.
W9YJ-11, was launched first and supposedly reached ~ 100,000 feet Landed near the town of Bronson, IL I heard stations on the cross-band repeater from Fond DuLac, WI; Toledo, OH when it was around 50,000 feet.
N9QGS-11 was launched second and lost its GPS data stream above 50,000 feet (just East of Royal, IL). It did recover its latitude/longitude and direction about 20 minutes later (near Oakwood, IL and I-74), but never its altitude. Landed south of Catlin, IL
I have MS Power Point slides of the OpenAPRS.net APRS tracks for both balloons.
You can go to OpenAPRS.net, enter the SSID for each balloon and request data over past 2 days. That will show you the actual tracks.

Had a great time with W9YJ-11 balloon launch. Thanks to who ever posted the info on the Amsat BB. I am the station in Fond du Lac, WI. EN53ss that made several contacts through the balloon repeater after it got above 50,000 ft. When it got to about 98,000 ft. at its peak, I had my Sat. antenna set at 10degree elevation. Great time. 73 N9RPQ

There was a special ANS197 and 197Acted text) that went to the website from me. I never saw it go into the BB and I sent it twice. This mornings ANS-200 will carry the corrected copy. Thanks, Dee. NB2F
