I have know this has been answered, but, what is the best dual band mag mount type antenna for mobile satellite work? 1/4 w 2 meter that will also work 435, or a longer 5/8 2m dual band? I saw a post 2 months ago, but, didnt save it. It may not be the best setup, but it beats not roving at all. For times when I can't deploy the ELK.Bobwa7dxz

Mobile antennas are designed to radiate at low angles and typically don’t work that well. They’re omnidirectional and omnis just don’t perform well on satellite in general. It always seems mobile stations make more chaos than QSOs. That said, I have used my Diamond NR770HAB a few times to work AO-85 on some relatively low (<15°) passes while cruising through the Mojave desert with ok success.
Keep in mind that you’ll be fixed polarity and will experience “deep fades”. If you’re going to try it then keep calling to a minimum because there’s a good chance there will be times when the bird is hearing you but you’re not hearing it and end up stepping on people like all mobile stations seem to do.
