The launch was successful. Both side boosters landed at Cape Canaveral, with the status of the main booster pending. The second stage, including the Tesla, is now in LEO.
An excellent first launch for a new booster. Well done, SpaceX!

Eh, I wouldn't go too hard on then. What happened (is happening) today was probably the least likely outcome. Quite an amazing accomplishment.
It would have been nice if the in-dash unit had been upgraded to a D710 for crossbanding. I presume Sir Isaac is inside the suit (who else would be driving?).

Anybody know if the car computer is running its full Ubuntu-based OS? In the Ubuntu circles I'm in nobody knows. It would actually answer that Linux community's running gag about planning for running its OS on Mars.

I am hearing that the core booster did not make the barge landing and hit the water at 300mph and was destroyed. I hope that is not the case as it would be remarkable to have all 3 back safe and sound.

Great quote from Musk:
"I had this image of a giant explosion on the pad with a wheel bouncing down the road with the Tesla logo landing somewhere," he said. "Fortunately that is not what happened."
Perhaps not the most important event, but watching two rockets LAND in formation like something out of a 1950s B movie was something I never expected to see!

I agree. That was an impressive sight, particularly since it appeared that they both touched down at the same time.

What was even more amazing to me was how even after traveling thousands of miles, I can fully understand the land on the target thing, BUT to land after all that distance to land like within 1/2 a second of each-other too!
