I have a problem involving the 9 pin serial port on the back of my FT-847 Yaesu transceiver. When I try to use a null modem cable between the rig and my PC on either COM 1 or 2, the rig will not respond to compatible rig controller (CAT) nor a memory management program. The COM ports have been tested as well as the use of two different PCs. Neither null modem cable works. I have tried to use the Menu feature on the FT-847 to match baud rate between radio and PC COM port. Has anyone had a problem like this with the Yaesu FT-847? I would appreciate knowing.
Thank you.

I have the first CAT version on my FT-847 this one cannot send any data back to the PC he can only be talk to by the PC. If i use Ham radio deluxe i am unable to have the program connected to the FT-847 but FT-847 super control is able to connect without any problem!
I always keep the max baud rate at 57600 on the menu and this never seems to be a problem.
After couple of years my FT-847 start to behave anomaly i solved the problem with a master reset.
What program are you using to connect with your 847?

I'm not sure it/they are the same, but I had a similar problem with my FT-857 and found that the voltage that is suppose to be on the data line connector was missing. If you are using a Yaesu data cable, they usually derive their power from the mini-din connector on the back. In my case, a 3 amp surface mounted pico fuse opened up inside the radio. This can happen if you plug/unplug the data cable with the unit hooked up to power and especially if it is on.
Again, don't know if this is the case, but it could be a similar problem. Check for voltage on the data connector if it is suppose to have any.

Gary,
Do you have a FC-20 auto tuner attached? If so, remove the FC-20 connector, and turn the rig off and back on. The auto tuner and CAT port use the same circuitry and are, with some caveats, incompatible.
Some _very_ early models did not have a bi-directional CAT port, which would certainly cause a problem with a CAT program, and possibly with a cloning program expecting a bi-directional port.
You seem to have eliminated all the usual cable and port configuration glitches.

I would like to than you for the information that you provided, as it corrected the situation to where the memories downloaded so that I could edit them and upload the new .CSV file. The CAT program works too. I also appreciate others that offered suggestion too.
