Hi Graham I was just trying to show that this is not the first time wood has been used in a spacecraft. I have my doubts wood would ever pass the NASA Out-Gassing specs to fly on a NASA flight. I got that I was not aware than wood had been as a heat shield material by anyone and found that interesting enough I did some searching for some more details, for example here:
