SAT Ops,
"RADIO VICTOR TANGO" What sad and shocking news! The SAT Community has lost a really great guy. Nick was an excellent operator and friendly and helpful to everyone he encountered. When he was even living in a townhouse, it was amazing the many QSOs and Grids he worked by using an inside antenna!
A couple years ago while Roving in VE2 and Northern New England, I ended up staying in Burlington, VT, overnight. Nick tracked me down via e-mail and we had a nice eyeball QSO over coffee/bagels (he bought). He had many amazing stories about his Satellite experiences and good words to say about everyone. Whoever is chasing WAS-SAT probably has Nick's QSL/LoTW in their file for Vermont. Whenever I would be roving up north and the footprint fell out of most of the U.S., Nick would often drop in for quick chat to keep me company when no one else was calling.
Nick.... We'll ALL miss you dearly. Rest in Peace, my friend.

Hello All: it is with a sad heart that I am writing this email, Nick, KB1RVT's, family contacted me and asked me to relay this information: Nick, while riding a bicycle trail in Vermont over the weekend, suffered a fall, he apparently suffered some head injuries resulting in hemorrhaging in the brain and passed away suddenly, local paramedics were quickly on the scene & worked vigorously to tend to his injuries.
The family is still in the process of contacting people & asked me to reach out to the satellite community.
Any details about the arrangements should be in the local Burlington Free Press newspaper, burlingtonfreepress.com. As I receive any additional information I will post it to the various BB's.
Please pass any information along any of the other social media conveyances. Nick will be missed by the satellite community.

Jeff,
Let me add that the Direwolf TNC program has a section on a virtual TNC serial port. No personal experience, but that should work the same as MixW, and is freeware.

Hi Alan! Very good, before I moved forward it's good to see someone getting it working, it assures me that I'm not wasting my time. I have a registered copy of MixW, but also think I left the registration key in Florida. I also have a DSP-2232, and a Symek TNC3S in Florida. I think the Symek is a 1200/9600 baud unit, but the 2232 can run 9600/9600 baud, I think. This will be fun getting them running again with WiSP :-).
How come your uplink is limited to 1k2?

Jeff,
Flex never delivered on the promised 9600 baud capability for the VU5K. KE9NS has gotten the RX side working very well, but there is little documentation, and so far not on the TX side. Work still in progress, but as I am the only one who seems to want it, very understandably not a high priority. :)
Yes, the DSP-2232, which I still have, works very well at 9600 baud. I used to use it with the FT-847 on the KitSATs and AO-51 when it was in packet mode.

I worked Nick many times when I was active on satellites. He was an FB OP.
He was one of my first QSOs after my 30 years away from the hobby.

Jeff,
I used the one from WIN95, and it worked fine on my WIN7 and WIN10 machines. It does write that and other information to the registry, so you will probably need to run as an Administrator.

It was sad to hear that one of our most active satellite operators and dx'ers has passed away. Nick KB1RVT has been around since I started working satellites in 2006 and as K8BL mentioned, he has worked everything with "portable equipment." He has likely worked more European Grids on LEO satellites than anyone else in North America! He was the voice of Fox November Three Four. We will miss hearing him on the birds. May he rest in peace. SAT Ops,
"ROMEO VICTOR TANGO" What sad and shocking news!
Nick....?
