Re: Question regarding computer/transceiver interfacing
Hi Joe, You can also buy aftermarket USB Data Cables. I have used several from West Mountain Radio (no longer available) and Blue Max (on eBay a bit more expensive and have been reliable for me.) with great success.
You have to make sure use get the cable with FTDI chip set not the crappy Chinese interface chips that require proprietary drivers. Also be careful I ordered a cable with FTDI chipset on ebay and it turns out it had the crappy Chinese set. I had to send it back. If the price is way too cheap then be careful, it is most likely not FTDI based. Good luck! Be aware the Yaesu radio will stutter during VFO change in full duplex with SatPC. See the instructions for SatPC. That is why most people use ICOMS or the older Kenwood 2000 on the sats. 73, Adrian AA5UK

Hi, Everyone. I’m relatively new to satellites, so my questions are pretty basic. I just purchased a new laptop running Windows 11, and will use it to run SatPC32 to control a Yaesu FT897D and a Yaesu FT857D for duplex operation. Are the USB-62C cables from RTSystems the right choice for this? Also, do I need to purchase the ADMS-4B software package to install the right drivers? I’ll probably never use most of its features.
I’ve been a ham since I was in 8th grade, but that was in 1958, and I’ve only recently returned to the hobby. As you might expect, I’m “digitally-challenged.” Thanks for any information you can offer.
