From my location and perspective it just didn't work. The procedure to get the ticket was long and convoluted and didn't follow the instructions. Once in the links didn't work or they took me somewhere else. Many excuses are being put forth but the bottom line is we paid for an event that didn't even come close to delivering. I am extremely disappointed.

I have the advantage of being on the inside as a vendor.
The QSO today had some challenges, and COVID played a part when 2 key people were struck hard by COVID at a critical time.
I have worked closely with Eric G for both events. He is a visionary and it goes without saying they have heard all the problems loud and clear.
The good news is there will be 83 presentations all supporting amateur radio that will be available shortly for all ticket holders. And, after all, it is only $10 on a hobby you have invested thousands of dollars in. A drop in the bucket. The monies are not used to make a profit but to pay for all the staff that Eric hired and server time. These items don't come for free.
What I want to understand is why was AMSAT absent? You had thousands of registered guests and you still will for another 27 days of advertising. Not one AMSAT logo anywhere.

Mike,
That about sums it up correctly, viz. *we paid $10 for 87 stored presentations*, as the live event was a total disaster; for after paying the admission fee via PayPal ,and obtaining what was called an E-Ticket, once I brought up the list of speakers, I was unable to connect to any of the live presentations ! Whereas last year, had no problem connecting to the live presentations.

That AirMeet software was a real pain for many. I am not sure why. I was on the system from 1am to 4am yesterday - all was PERFECT. But I left the room for the third pot of coffee, came back and all hades broke loose. I was kicked out. I was then told my camera and mic didn’t;t exist. It WAS A PAIN, indeed. It was good to see that savvy Windows folks did the “right-click” and ENTER to open AirMeet in a new Window, which worked for them. (I am on Macs.) But you are absolutely correct: Even the “right-click” “rte rick” should NOT be a requirement to know to enjoy a convention. There were problems with the way session hosts could or in some cases could not work with their presenters and presenters recorded sessions. Heck, my presentation never actually aired in it's proper position. It actually got aired in someone else's slot and thus was locked out of running where it should. ( I did see a compliment to my work from someone but I never could figure out where). My beef is with someone, most likely a ham, who wanted to wreak havoc with the event and initiated a deliberate Distributed Denial of Service DDoS attack on the event's database which most likely contributed to some of the problems they experienced early on. You have all experienced this kind of behavior with the "Repeater jammer", the HF broadcaster, or in our satellite case, the person who spends the whole FM satellite pass whistling into their microphone with rig running legal limit to block other's enjoyment. Folks who do such things probably y are not part of this list, but if by chance they are, shame on them. Yes I got frustrated and disappointed, but I had fun manning a table and talking to folks who did show up at the booth. Directed several to by the AMSAT "Getting Started" book. Oh and by the way, Michelle did an awesome job in trying her best to keep the satellite track running on Saturday, despite multiple problems. She will not get the credit in the AMSAT community that she deserves in doing what she did. Mike,
That about sums it up correctly, viz. we paid $10 for 87 stored presentations, as the live event was a total disaster; for after paying the admission fee via PayPal ,and obtaining what was called an E-Ticket, once I brought up the list of speakers, I was unable to connect to any of the live presentations ! Whereas last year, had no problem connecting to the live presentations.

The event was not a “total disaster.” Thousands got in to see what they wanted to.
But there were, indeed, problems with that meeting program.
I was on from 1-4AM Pacific Saturday without problems. Left the desk to get more coffee, and returned to a disaster. That airmeet program kicked me out: “Clint, you no longer have a nice Heil PR40 nor HD Logitech camera … “ error message.
It took me almost two hours to get back in. 8AM sessions were delayed in starting. My 9am presentation went on as scheduled. As did many other 9AM sessions.
But I can truly see how many would have given up after trying to get in - both with ticket generation problems and that airmeet program being so weird.
Eric dropped by our Satellites Table yesterday afternoon, and talked to us for almost 15 minutes. Ideas were discussed. Problems were explained. Solutions discussed.
SO … although Eric is “manning up” and taking full responsibility for failures totally out of his control, no one should really blame him for anything, IMHO.
And although an interesting idea, NO ONE should really “need” a Cheat Sheet to maneuver an online convention. It should be smooth and fluid and intuitive … and once I got back in, I was able to go everywhere I wanted to. It was my first experience with airmeet … I see its potential. But it is going to have to mature quite a bit before I personally contract with them for anything (grin).
I was afraid to turn off my computer late Saturday night - fearing problems to get back on at 8AM Sunday. But I did shut down - and was able to get in in less than 30 seconds and attend Wayne Yoshida’s 8am session, then lead our Satellites Table until 5pm.
I was incensed when I logged in to social media yesterday - as many were not acting in the true best interests of improving the situation, but, instead, bitching and moaning. Yes, they paid $10 for a show. Yes, many couldn’t get in. But ALL the programs will be available to all in the next 48-72 hours: They are being edited as we speak and will be available to all.
The couple of comments that really increased my blood pressure were those that stated the show was “too commercial.” Huh? It was sponsored by AMATEUR RADIO EQUIPMENT SUPPLIERS. What the heck is “too commercial” about that? Now, then, if Marlboro cigarettes and Cannidis dealers were prominent, I’d have a problem. But for a ham to say he didn’t;t like to see ham company support is, well, ignorant at best.
SO … I conversed with Eric 6AM yesterday … at our Satellites Table yesterday afternoon… have two email messages from him this morning … I do not doubt his sincerity in making life better for us next time. He did not spend a year creating this event only to irritate people. His integrity is NOT an issue.

Like many, I found the access problems to be irritating. Still, considering that the annual flea market in my local area was scrubbed, the expo at least provided me with some of the camaraderie that the flea market would have provided. (I did miss the hot dogs and being able to browse through any items for sale, but, as the saying goes, half a loaf is better than none.)
Despite the glitches, I'm looking forward to the next expo.

Bernhard- thank you for your comments.
Chatted with a ham whose club’s annual Swap Meet was - well, they couldn’t hold it in-person, traditionally.
But they held it - in a system very similar to the Tables Room that we had this weekend at the QSO Conference.
Imagine … a “Seller” manning his table of stuff … or, possibly, a really exciting item having its own table.
Attendees could chat with the owners … find out more … be offered/shown photos … maybe even “bid” for the more exciting items …
Certainly has potential!!!
Personally, I am a little embarrassed that I haven’t taken as much “advantage” of Zoom sessions in past years. I mean, a team’s meeting via Zoom can be seen by MANY who simply cannot attend physically: Whether due to illness or being homebound … no transportation … students … the hard of hearing!!! (I never use a podium when conducting a meeting in-person. And will move around. And you can see/find someone straining to hear if there’s no PA system set up - and I;ll gravitate that way).
I’d like to see clubs CONTINUE online sessions even after getting back to in-person meetings - just to be able to include those who cannot attend for whatever reason(s). It does NOT need to be an expensive, elaborate, three-camera setup and mixing board. It can be very simple …
But I digress. That’s what 2+ days of no sleep and a bunch of coffee does to me …
THANK YOU again for your QSO Convention comments.

PS I did perm a sat show TEN YEARS AGO for the Anchorage ham club. They had to establish an elaborate microwave setup to get WiFi to the venue … But we pulled it off via Skype! The organizers said attendees thought it was great!

That is a great question. AMSAT was ready to go. Our volunteers spent countless hours organizing our presence at Ham Expo and the AMSAT logo spent months on the HamExpo page as an Exhibitor.
Then, on February 18th, AMSAT Director Thompson unilaterally informed Eric Guth to pull AMSAT from all participation in Ham Expo and remove the AMSAT logo.
Up to that point the presentation auditorium and the booth was called the "World of AMSAT." The next day, it was changed to the "Amateur Space Radio Exhibit."

I'd like to know a whole lot more why Director Thompson made this decision.

If that is true, I hope that Director Thompson will share her reasoning.
However, I also wonder about the chain of command in AMSAT if a single Director can pull a sponsorship/advertisement from somewhere, but the President of AMSAT can't/didn't do anything about it? How does a single Director have more authority over this sort of thing compared to the organization's President?

Steve - I “felt” official AMSAT presence/support/front page logo disappear … but am not sure of the details. It certainly did not affect Tom’s shows, nor my show and 8 hours of manning our Satellites Table.
If an attendee was looking for “satellite info,” AMSAT was in the Schedule of talks, and, when one entered the Tables Page, I was at the Sats table, and the ARISS table …
And what a weekend for amateur radio! Guess I picked the wrong time to stop taking meds for ADD (grin): I had the QSO Convention up on two monitors, the LIVE ISS EVA correcting our antenna cabling on another monitor, hooked up live to the event and another person on two iPhones … and my wife keeping my coffee cup filled for two days!
Phew …
