All,
Need to replace the PC in the shack and would like to find something that's RFI-free out of the box. I've had terrible luck with desktop PC's, but the last two laptops (Toshiba) were very quiet.
I'm leaning towards something in the small-PC catagory with an LCD monitor. Sound card and multiple USB ports are a must. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tony,
You are probably going to have to pick up something and try it out. Everything now is FCC-B certified ("home and office use"), but there can still be problems. My nice new LCD monitor (LG Flatron wide) puts out a nice birdie on HF that lines up nicely with the AMSAT Net on 14.828 Sunday mornings. The notch filter takes it out, but it's still annoying. My homebuilt desktop PC, however, is totally quiet (RF-wise, if not at audio frequencies...).
Good luck,
Greg KO6TH

Actually my desktop is pretty quiet. I found that when I got rid of my conventional CRT monitor and went to LCD that things were much better. It was my monitor making most of the the racket. 73, Michael, W4HIJ

Yes..its very strange to see this question here this AM since just last nite I found out how bad my two CRT monitors are aon HF. My dell laptop seems fine. Since I am about to begin building up some SDR hardware, I'm looking for any solutions other than having to buy an LCD panel.
I plan to use the SDR for a base for up/down converting into U/V operations but am seriously concerned now about the RFI from these monitors.
