Re: The future of Amateur Satellites
Joe,
Indeed, I am participating to the ASRTU-1 (AO-123) mission and been the first worldwide to received its telemetry about 15 mins after deployment, just that I was ready in the right location and at the right time, no great technical achievement honestly.
That said, indeed we move from AO-01 to 123, but unfortunately regulatory and financing issues for us HAM are becoming a great hurdle for the future.
Please see mail I sent previously to my friend Bob Hammond on the subject with my thoughts.
All the best and 73

Have I invested in amateur satellite hardware that is soon to become obsolete?
Your investment is secure, Bob.
Note that AMSAT just issued number 123, an unimaginably large number to me as it was only AO8 when I got started. A quick look at the IARU web site shows many projects underway and applied for.
