Unless I missed it, the LEDs appear to be just 'light'. Had they turned the LEDs on and off at a defined audio rate, the signal could have been detected with a soundcard with a waterfall display giving an increase of x10 in sensitivity.
Love the supercaps though. (vacuum tested?)
