Hello friends,
I'll be operating our club satellite station for Field Day and intend to submit results towards the club ARRL score as well as the AMSAT contest. In past years we have kept paper records during the event then typed them out for submission, but last year we vowed to find a logging program that would support satellite contacts. Even if we have to manually sort the ARRL from the AMSAT results at the end I think it would be worthwhile. So I'm looking for suggestions.
Our club is using "N3FJP Field Day Contest Log" which I don't think allows logging the same contact on multiple satellites per AMSAT rules. Would "N3FJP Amateur Contact Log" be better suited? I don't mind paying for good software, especially if I can use it for my own satellite logging later. Or if an Excel spreadsheet is truly the best option then I'll consider that.
Thanks and 73, Alex VA3ASE
I have used N3FJP Amateur Contact Log for many years and it works well for satellites with a little bit of easily accomplished and well-documented customization. However, I primarily use it now for HF only out of a desire to keep my satellite logs separate from other amateur activity. For satellites I currently use Log4OM, which is a free download (donationware) and very easy for satellite use. I suspect that either of these programs would work for you. The N3FJP contest logs are excellent, but you are correct that the Field Day log program is designed only for ARRL parameters, and not according to the AMSAT field day rules. -- Mark D. fwiw, I just hand log for field day. Most people aren't making enough contacts to really make computer logging necessary for sats, and the FD logging software most people use (like N3FJP) doesn't work well for amsat field day (no dupes allowed, etc.). I tried logging software last year and it was a pain.
Just keeping a legal pad handy for writing down passes and contacts works well enough for me.
