It depends on the Linux in question.
I use Debian 6.0 (Squeeze) and I use the following in tandem to get a nice view of satellites:
a) predict and predict-gsat b) gpredict
I think predict-gsat along with predict running in the background is a better UI overall and gives a nicer view, but YMMV.
