NORAD said they made it:
PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – North American Aerospace Defense Command officials acknowledged today that U.S. missile warning systems detected and tracked the launch of a North Korean missile at 7:49 p.m. EST. The missile was tracked on a southerly azimuth. Initial indications are that the first stage fell into the Yellow Sea. The second stage was assessed to fall into the Philippine Sea. Initial indications are that the missile deployed an object that appeared to achieve orbit. At no time was the missile or the resultant debris a threat to North America.

Just out of curiosity, when is the next US, Russian, European, Indian, Chinese or Japanese 'missile' going to be launched, carrying a payload into orbit?

Hopefully it is a weather satellite as the news has reported. The thing that has got me wondering is the Airforce just put its shuttle up in space again...its just kind of odd to me the launches were so close together time wise. I saw a clip taken from the Chinese border of the rocket heading into space.

I have often wondered what would happen if N. Korea, Iran or other "similar" country volunteered to put up a amateur radio satellite? The political ramifications would be "interesting" to see. Would NASA, ESA, etc finally "step" up? 73 Bob W7LRD
