Hello all,
I am one of the industry mentors and former students from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. I wanted to draft up this quick email with a few things that might have been overlooked in the excitement of the last 24 hours.
We've identified an issue with IARU listings of our frequencies. The listings contained a typo with regards to our UHF Radio. The below information is our satellite's configurations:
*UHF*: *Frequecy: *437.325 (originally published as 435.325) *Modulation and Baud Rates*: FSK 1200, 9600, and FM 1200 (AX.25)
*VHF*: *Frequecy: *145.825 *Modulation and Baud Rates*: FSK 1200, 9600, and FM 1200 (AX.25)
We have beacons transmitted every 15 seconds, and the beacons will alternate configuration, meaning we'll transmit:
Time 0s: UHF FSK 1200 Time 15s: UHF FSK 9600 Time 30s: UHF FM 1200
As of right now it is our belief the satellite is only transmitting on only the UHF. However we do not know for certain.
We have heard a few passes throughout the day from Lafayette, LA, and heard our UHF beacons transmitting, however we have not been able to decode yet, which brings me to my request:
Using the above information, if any one copies a packet from CAPE-3, please try to capture the hex string of our data and email it to me. We are looking to figure out the status of our satellite's health since launch.
Thanks so much for everyone's support, and assistance, we really appreciate it.

Sincerely, Rizwan Merchant KF5BNL

Hello Rizwan,
Pierros from SatNOGS here.
We have been closely following the launch and CAPE-3 as well. In our SatNOGS DB there seem to be already submitted packets from CAPE-3 https://db.satnogs.org/satellite/99757#data . Can you check them and let us know of their validity? Also the SatNOGS Network is observing CAPE-3 a lot https://network.satnogs.org/observations/?future=0&norad=99757&obser... without any demodulations though yet. (mainly due to low SNR from what we can see) Can you please also share your encoding scheme so we can decode the packets? Excuse me if it is already shared and we missed it.
Also, since launch we have been monitoring the TLEs published by the 18th and how they fit the various transmissions we receive (using strf). I can now positively say that CAPE-3 is 47309 without a doubt. See here https://imgur.com/a/AX3kqB0 images on our fits and the comparative of the various curves vs observed. I will let the 18th know too.
Finally feel free to drop by https://app.element.io/?#/room/#satnogs:matrix.org where we discuss all things Satnogs and observations related, and let the team know that we can support on telemetry RX and dashboard creation for the mission, like we have done for dozen other missions.
Cheers!

Could you tell us if CAPE-3 is currently programmed to operate continuously or does it stop sending telemetry during eclipse?

Where can we find details on the telemetry and modulations used by CAPE-3?

Telemetry details will be formally published by us by sometime this weekend.
CAPE-3 is flying with an FM modulation with ax.25 frames, and FSK with a frame as specified by our radio chip AXSEM 5043. I'll try to pull the exacts off the datasheet and share it after work today.

Hello Rizwan,
Are the UHF and VHF signals generated by the same AX5043, or two different AX5043 chips?

Thanks for the information,
Looking at the data sheet there are a lot of options https://www.farnell.com/datasheets/2354976.pdf some details on configuration would be help full.

The uhf and vhf are made by two separate chips. It's our belief after seeing some data, that our vhf might be dead on arrival to orbit.
