Hi to all & HNY !!!!
Since a few days now, a cuban station is active on the ISS packet, he is CM7BLC and he is getting addicted to APRS...
He will try to be on every ISS pass until January 5, he is new to that mode...
He is using AGWPE+UISS and in the rig section a commercial kenwood radio (TK-760G) with 25W and a 4 element yagui with a manual rotator...
Despite the low power of the ISS packet tx, he has a very good copy of the station...
He can be reached at: cm7blc at frcuba dot co dot cu
I'm coaching him to get into LoTW, so any QSL from a contact will be confirmed that way in the future when he receive his LoTW credentials...
73 and again happy holidays and HNY!!!
What programs can be used for ISS APRS?
Rich W4BUE
Rich,
UISS was designed for ISS packet. http://users.belgacom.net/hamradio/uissdownload.htm
You will also need a tnc or you can use a soundcard tnc.
AGWPE http://www.sv2agw.com/ham/agwpe.htm
Dire Wolf https://home.comcast.net/~wb2osz/site/
UZ7HO Soundmodem http://uz7.ho.ua/packetradio.htm
I have found that UZ7HO Soundmodem and Dire Wolf work better than AGWPE.

Ted,
I have used UI-VIEW32 very successfully with a variety of sound card programs. Change the routing to CQ via ARISS. These days I use UISS as it is "purpose built."

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I've used UISS and AGWPE for along time and also UI-VIEW. I'll give UZ7HO a try.

Hi Dave
I was wondering, I use AGWPE, in what ways is UZ7HO better ? I haven't had any problems with AGWPE but I'm not against trying something else if it preforms better. What are your thoughts ?

Hi Rich,
What programs can be used for ISS APRS?
On the http://www.ariss.org/contact-the-iss.html page they posted an AMSAT Symposium paper I wrote a couple of years ago about ISS packet. About 66% down the page there is a section titled, "Packet Operations" and the 'resource' link will get you a PDF copy of the paper.

Thank you everyone for the information.
God Bless

Hi Rich,
I use dire wolf as the software TNC. It shows RX and tx packets in its DOS window nicely. Very helpful.
Easy path is to have only one sound card enabled, and connected to the radio, then start dire wolf and see if you can copy rx packets right in the dire wolf DOS window.
I use a signalink as the sound card interface connected to the 6pin din connector on the back of the 910h or ft817 so that I don't have to sort out a PTT line. It's quite nice, simple, and effective for many digital modes.
Once you get RX working (try 144.39 first) then you can check the dire wolf manual for how to put it in tx to calibrate/ set tx audio level...
I then use UI-view to connect to dire wolf to do the mapping etc. BUT there's other options besides UI-view..
Have Fun, Mike W4UOO
