Looks like the group behind the burned up D-Star ONE project somehow managed to get a second satellite built and launched in a little over a month. They're getting data from it, and are awaiting the TLE. Pretty crazy how fast they got that up there.
I don't have a second D-Star radio, but maybe it'll be workable without being able to hear myself.

However, without any communication from the satellite owners to the amateur community, all we can do is speculate and listen to see what's heard.

Well that certainly makes it a little easier. Are the doppler issues any different than the normal ones we face on a 70cm satellite?
The TLE on that Chinese sat suggests it'll get passes over the US, so that's good news if it's actually another FM bird. Having a handful of new satellites up there all at once will hopefully spread out the crowds so that we don't have people blasting them with 50W trying to beat out the other stations.

Tests on AO-27 showed that D-STAR fails if the frequency is more than 1.5 kHz off, that means there are times when you will not be able to access or hear the satellite using 5 kHz steps. The IC-9100 can be fine tuned and computer controlled, I'm not sure about any other D-STAR radios, maybe the IC-7100 can be too.

Will be testing ID-5100 under HRD control tomorrow to see if 1Khz tuning is possible. Cabling may be an issue as HRD config notes calls for a mod of their standard cable.

Hi Frank,
I was just thinking of buying a 5100 because I don't seem to be able to reliably get into the FM satellites with just 5W from my HT and I read the manual and according to it the minimum tuning step is 5kHz. It would be nice if a smaller step could be achieved through CI-V but I doubt it.

We may have a chance since I see 1Khz options for receive freq but no TX set. Maybe by using the duplex offset in 1 Khz increments something can be worked out.
Ill see what HRD can do tomorrow at my club where we have an ID-5100 and hopefully the right cable.

The 7100 can tune in 1Hz increments and can be computer controlled.

Tests on AO-27 showed that D-STAR fails if the frequency is more than 1.5 kHz off, that means there are times when you will not be able to access or hear the satellite using 5 kHz steps. The IC-9100 can be fine tuned and computer controlled, I'm not sure about any other D-STAR radios, maybe the IC-7100 can be too.

I find it somewhat odd that they've managed to receive signals, but everyone else in Europe is reporting silence. We shall see.

In other satellite news, one or maybe two Chinese amateur satellites was launched earlier this morning. FMN-1 carries an FM transponder with an uplink of 145.945 MHz and a downlink of 435.350 MHz. Telemetry downlink is 9k6 BPSK on 435.350 MHz. It's possible that one of the other CubeSats on the mission, Shaonian XIng, is one of the Juvenile series satellites coordinated here: http://www.amsatuk.me.uk/iaru/finished_detail.php?serialnum=547
However, without any communication from the satellite owners to the amateur community, all we can do is speculate and listen to see what's heard.
