Hi Whats the current operational status of AO-7?
I ask because I'm returning to amateur radio after a lapse of about *cough*30 plus years! AO-7 is like sn old friend i remember and wkuld love to try working sometime soon for old times sake.
I understand its only operational when not eclipsed, but wondering about prefered mode/power etc and frankly does anyone else still use the old dear anymore?
Many thanks in advance Meeko M0FVD
AO-7 is still working although attention to uplink power needs observed, keep it low as possible.
It switches between U/V & V/A & still the go to satellite for working DX
You can see the status of all the satellites via the status page http://www.amsat.org/status/
Look forward to hearing you on the birds

Are the beacons still working? I've tried to get them many times, but not a trace. Might be my modest setup, though.

Not really part of AMSAT stuff but close. Has anyone got numbers, software or a location spot on the net for the Comet 46P/Wirtanen.
I can find lots of sky charts but nothing like a readout/print we would have for satellites.

Hi Bill,
46P is a little below and to the right of M45, aka the Pleiades / 7 Sisters. It's supposed to be easily visible with binoculars, plus or minus the cloud cover we're currently blessed with. Might be clear tonight, fingers crossed. It'd make for an interesting DSO image in a few days, as it passes M45.

Interesting the comment (toward the bottom of the page) that it is visually crossing the Geo satellite ring about now
https://theskylive.com/46p-info gives RA / Dec coordinates for the comet over the next week.

Bill,
Go here for an ephemeris:
https://in-the-sky.org/ephemeris.php?objtxt=0046p
Note it will not include Alt/az position, just RA & Dec.
If I ca figure out why my planetarium program wont load Comet data, I can run on with Alt/az for you.. If...

Now that you mention it Hans, I don't recall hearing the beacon. But I did hear my own downlink. I haven't been baqck on the air for a few weeks, the TLE's need to be updated and I should give a listen to AO7.
A note on the downlink when I used it, as I recollect the downlink frequency seemed a little unstable. On 70cm I'm only running 10W maximum into 75 feet of feedline and a RH helix antenna and no elevation rotator. On 2M again its 10W max and the antenna is an 8 element quad.

Hi Meeko,
I'd also been away from satellites for 20 years plus, came back for a little activity this summer. That included looking for contacts on AO-7 (worked a UA1).
