PREDICT for 64-bit Winderz?
Hi All,
Yesterday I tried without success to run the DOS version of PREDICT under 64-bit Windows. I must admit while I'm not surprised, I was greatly disappointed, since the program is so useful.
Does anybody have a fix or maybe a recompiled .exe ?
(And telling me to run it under Linux isn't a "fix" ;) )
Thanks,
Mark L. Hammond [N8MH]
Try DOSBOX--it was made to run DOS games in 64-bit windows.

Its for this very reason i keep 2 old PC 486 a P1 all runnning WIn 98 and Windows ME they both have 2 serial port and they are very easy to configure in the older DOS based program. You even found them in many garage sale often for free when you bargain as an excuse another useless item...
The price to pay is to have to spend (loose) your time on the roads on a sunny week end morning. "-"

Hi Mark,
I don't have that problem (I *do* run it under Linux :-) ), but what I believe some do for this sort of thing is to get DosBox running first, and then run stuff from inside there. DosBox is a full PC emulation and DOS environment, separate from the embedded CMD prompt. http://www.dosbox.com
Good luck,

Here's my answer.
Install Sun/Oracle Virtualbox within Windows 7 and install Windows 95/ME/XP in VirtualBox. Then install Predict/Instantrack or any other DOS based software you really need to run on this virtual machine.

The DOS version of PREDICT is feeble compared to the one available for Unix/Linux systems. Instead of running the DOS version why not try using Cygwin and the running the Unix version within that environment. Cygwin gives you Unix style facilities without installing Unix/Linux.
