Its certainly possible, but the only system I have any knowledge of is by using the heat produced by radioactive decay. This was /is used by various military satellites in the 1980's at least. Maybe it still is.

Don, That work was still being done in 1998 at General Atomic in Torrey Pines area of San Diego. I suspect that it continues, it was part of the origional Direct Conversion Project of the 60's at General Atomic.
