Hi All,
Are there any members in the UK, well, South Coast (Portsmouth) area belong to the list who would be willing to show me the best way to work the FM sats?
Look forward to any replies..
Thanks,

Chris and Others,
For V/U FM mode on AO-51, you can simply program five channels to handle the Doppler Shift. For instance, using Chan 1 and 2 for approach, Chan 3 for center frequency, and Chan 4 and 5 for descent can work with manual switching. While this is a good simple method, computer controlled Doppler Shift would be even better, provided the correct data is entered.

These frequencies can't be tuned exactly on most FM boxes, where the minimum step size is 5 kHz.
In my experience, the uplink can remain fixed on 145.920, though there may be some benefit in a 5 kHz change near the ends of the pass, the downlink needs to be adjusted between 435.310 (start of pass) to 435.290 (end of pass), so your table would look like:
Rx Tx 1. 435.310 MHz - 145.915 or 145.920 MHz 2. 435.305 MHz - 145.920 MHz 3. 435.300 MHz - 145.920 MHz 4. 435.295 MHz - 145.920 MHz 5. 435.290 MHz - 145.925 or 145.920 MHz
In my experience, I've never had to tune the uplink on AO-51, leaving it on 145.920 has worked fine for me.

Hi Howard & All,
Many thanks to all those who replied to my plee for help both on list and personally!
I would like to attend this event, i have checked out the details and wondered what the best day for me to actually come and watch these demo's? Perhap someone could take me under there wing on such an event?
Also, like your web site Howard.. keep up the good work! I have been a little put off about joining AMSAT due to a couple of emails sent to the UK group that havent been replied to at all :(
one was about the Arrow Antenna and if I should invest and the other was to join? Its a big off putting when you dont get a reply at all, hence my message to the group.. This has really helped and its good to know you guys are there to support when needed..
All the best,

Hi Chris,
I'm running the beginners session at the colloquium and it will be on Friday afternoon. We normally try to do two live demos during the session along with a 'classroom' session which describes:
The history Satellite types Satellite modes Current satellites Equipment available Minimum requiements
and lots of Q & A.
There will be lots of opportunities to work the sats throughout the whole weekend as GB4FUN will be there with a large range of equipment.
