Fine steel wool. Then spray Marine Spar Varnish on it (after connecting cable and properly sealing that connection).

The scotchbrite with some sort of a liquid like mineral oil really helps cut it fast and at the same time remove the oxidation away so it doesn't clog the scotchbrite.
