SATPC32 & Icom IC-910H Setting PL Tone Question
Happened to be up very late, trying to finish some work. My computer alerted me that SO-50 was rising, and even though it was 4AM, I thought I'd take a chance that someone might be on the bird.
All efforts to raise the bird failed, even though it was a very high elevation pass. I realized that the bird had "timed out" and needed to be activated. Not something I was used to thinking about considering how busy SO-50 usually is. I searched in vain to try to figure out how SATPC32 was setting the 67.0 Hz PL tone. I figured I could modify that setting to make it transmit 74.4 Hz instead. But no joy.
I know this can be set in the rig's menu, but I'd rather have a separate setting in SATPC32 for those rare passes when SO-50 is silent. Can someone walk me through how to edit the necessary file(s) and set this up? Thanks in advance from a night owl!
Hi Les,
You have to configure/check the SubTone.sqf file and then when this is setup you can use the T0/T1/T2 option within SatPC32. Default behaviour is T0 no tone T1 is normal TX behaviour and T2 arm the SO-50 timer.

Files which can be opened by the SatPC32 '?' menu The following files can only be edited manually. They can be opened in the SatPC32 '?' menu with the SatPC32 built-in editor or with Notepad:
Doppler.SQF, Squint.SQF, Prior.SQF, ParPort.SQF, Program.SQF, Standpos.SQF, SatFiles.SQF, DivOptions.SQF, SubTone.SQF, AmsatNames.Txt, Celestrak.SQF
SubTone.SQF This file contains the names and parameters of satellites that require a subaudible tone on the uplink signal for access. At present, the only satellites of this kind are SO-50 and AO-51. The file itself contains detailed hints how to be used.

Hello Les, with the settings that come with the SatPC32 12.8b setup file you can switch on the 67.0 Hz and the 74.4 Hz sub tones of the IC-910H. While tracking SO-50 click the SatPC32 "T" control (in the uppler left part of the SatPC32 main window) to "T1". That will switch on the 67.0 tone. Click "T2", that will switch on the 74.4 Hz tone. Clicking to "T0" will switch off the tone. Important: I suppose you have the American version of the IC-910H. So, make sure that you have installed the English program version for AMERICAN users!. The European English program version doesn't set the tone frequencies of the American version of the IC-910H, because the tone frequency setting commands are different.
The program stores the sub tone frequencies in "SubTone.SQF" in the SatPC32 data folder. The file contains already the necessary settings for SO-50.
