It's sad the amount of interest the people of the USA has in space anymore. I watched the after launch press conference and there was maybe 10 people there thats it.

To be fair, the launch took place late on a Friday night, so people were likely more interested in the weekend.
On the other hand, LADEE isn't going to do anything comparatively interesting. After all, the moon isn't Mars and isn't considered an exotic location. Examining dust in the lunar atmosphere? How dull is that?
I remember when the Huygens probe landed on Titan, which I thought was quite exciting. (Talk about the "strange new worlds" mentioned in the opening credits for each episode of "Star Trek"!) Later that day, I was chatting with a cashier about it and her reaction was "Huh?". She probably didn't know where Titan was, let alone that there were two spacecraft in its vicinity. Maybe Saturn, to her, was just another brand of automobile.

Bernhard,
Somebody once observed that NASA had managed to make space exploration seem routine. A compliment to their professionalism and technical prowess, but perhaps not the best from a public relations standpoint. :)

I can say that on Chincoteague Island, across from Wallops, there were thousands of people there to watch. The causeway to the island was a traffic jam. There is definitely still some interest.
Don N3MK My short video of it from the south end of Chincoteague Island.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_mhSFKjivk
