Fairly new to the satellites and currently setting up a new sat station… I’ve asked a few questions in the past with great answers from you guys…
I’m using an Icom 9700 and M2 Eggbeater antennas. I also have a Mirage Kp-1/440 shack pre-amp.
My question is regarding the pre-amp. Obviously it is boosting the received signal on 70cm, but what happens when I try to work a U/V satellite? Can I transmit back through the pre-amp? Does the pre-amp need to be shut off?
The instruction manual says that: "The pre-amp also has automatic RF-switching, which disengages the pre-amp any time it detects a transmission signal being emitted by the tranceiver.”
I take that to mean it disengages when I transmit on VHF so as not to overload the pre-amp. But what about when I transmit UHF, basically back though the pre-amp?
I hope I explained that properly!
Thank you! And have a Happy Thanksgiving!
