Looking at the DS3000A from AOR USA. Wondering if it isa good backup/permanent installation versus the portable of handheld yagis like the Arrow.

I have a Diamond discone that I use for a local and repeater antenna. Other than the occasional use as a 2nd uplink on the FM satellites, it really isn't useful for much on satellite. There just isn't enough gain there in my opinion.

A discone might be OK for an uplink antenna where you can generate higher power to make up for the poor antenna, but I would not consider one for a downlink antenna.
