Hi All,
There have been discussions on this BB in the past about the best USB to serial interface units. I seem to recall that there was one reccommended unit (not very cheap) which had the advantage of not reallocating COM port numbers each time the PC was restarted. I think it had 4 serial ports. Can anyone advise which this unit was
Or alternatively recommend a good unit?
Thanks and 73s

Hi Jim,
Don't know about what was recommended.
I have been using the FTDI chips and complete solutions in various configurations with good succes. See: http://www.ftdichip.com/Products/EvaluationKits/USB-Serial.htm
UC232R-10; DLP-2232ML; TTL-232R all worked OK for me. The first of these is a complete solution, the second is an USB to Serial conversion chip that requires a level converter of the max232 type to bring the signals up to RS232 standard, the third is a new product that is an USB-serial converter (TTL level) in the form factor of a cable.
Hope this helps, BR, -- //\arc
Look up Keyspan. It has ports for Com.'s 5-8. Not sure if it could be programmed to be lower no.'s of Com.'s. some older programs only do Com.'s 1-4. 73, Harvey K5HV

I'll second the Keyspan. I've been using them for years. No problems ever. I have 2 of them.

Hi Jim.
I don't recall your original post, but the USB to serial converters from Maplin have worked for me OK. I guess Poole might be your closest.

Jim, Let me know if you have problems, I can always get one and either send it or bring it back with me! David KG4ZLB/M0ZLB
