Hi all- I would be curious to know what "everyone" is using for L band gear. Perhaps others would like to know. example I run IC-910- at 10W 70 feet of LMR600 24 element looper yagi horizontal polarized
Alinco DJ-G7T - 1 watt 6' LMR-240 AC0RA's Iowa Arrow (A Comet CYA-1216E modified with 3 2m Arrow elements)
It's been a few months since I've been on L band - maybe next week! Been concentrating on working passes of RS-44 and HuskySat-1 lately. New satellites are always fun!

Mike,
With that setup on AO-92 L-mode, you will kill the bird, burn it out Hi!
I believe that this is the max. and you are not firing all this power to AO-92.

Bob,
I am using the TS-2000 with the 1.2Ghz module (factory fit, max power 10W), for AO-92 L-mode using about 1 or 2W into a Wimo 23T Helix with about 15m of Ecoflex 15 coax. as feeder.

Bob,
It may or may not matter and LMR600 at 70 feet starts to get rather lossy - 2.142 dB. For a 70 run I have switched over to 7/8" hardline.

Hey Bob. That was me calling you last night as you ended your QSO with Patrick on AO92 L band. Sat was getting a little low for me at that point.
I run a TS-2000x, 2 runs of 75 ft of LMR400, 5 el yagi on 2m vert pol, and Directive Systems 27 el loop yagi on 23 cm horizontal pol.

Hi Bob!
Nice to hear you last night!
When you worked me last night, my L-band setup was an old Kenwood TM-541A 1.2 GHz FM mobile radio and a 10-element Yagi I bought from an eBay seller. I usually run 10 watts from this radio, which compensates for the coarse (10 kHz) tuning steps. AO-92's AFC does a good job at picking me up, even when my uplink frequency is a bit off what AO-92 is expecting. The 10-element Yagi was strapped onto the handle for my Elk log periodic.
When I started working AO-92 L/V, I used an Alinco DJ-G7T HT with a 5-element Yagi on the HT's antenna connector. Later, I used that 10-element Yagi with the DJ-G7T, and I could work AO-92 at either 1W or (sometimes) 300mW. The DJ-G7T tunes in 5 kHz steps, which helps the lower transmitter power output compared to the TM-541A.
For all of my AO-92 L/V activity, I use a TH-D74 and Elk on the 2m downlink. I record the downlink with the HT. AO-92 is easy to hear, as long as it clears the trees and my neighbors' houses when I operate from home.

Amazing performance by AO-92s "Downshifter" experiment, IMO. We did not expect that degree of sensitivity through the UHF RX antenna, hence the relatively hefty power (PEP) recommendation prior to launch which was quickly dialed back when we tested during commissioning, and corroborated by several reports of user QSOs with an HT. Another great design contribution by Engineering volunteer John Klingelhoeffer, WB4LNM.

Hi Bob,
L-band here, unused for a bit. Good reminder!
Yaesu FT-736R with the 1.2 gig module installed. 10 watts. 60-odd feet of LDF-50A hardline to the roof, with about 10' of random RG-213 at each end 30 element beam of unknown pedigree, horizontally polarized. Az/El rotor lash-up consisting of a ham rotor for Az, TV rotor for El, and a homebrew controller using a Basic Stamp-II

Bob,
Good thought to share L-band station inventory. You can see my sat antennas on my QRZ site. Station here for L-band:
Kenwood TS-790A with 1.2 GHz module (for being an antique, this radio works extremely well on all of the sats) LMR 400 coax German made helix about 2 feet long (sorry forgot the name, but extremely well made).
antennas are about 6 feet above ground as pictured on QRZ and 25 feet from rig. I am often astonished that even with the trees in the yard and small hills, I often catch the sats at 4 degrees. Seems like my 1.257 MHz uplink is not very loud, but my output maybe around 5 watts. I was hearing AO-92 at 5 degrees this morning, but could not uplink

Bob,
I'm using an IC-0700 at 10 watts into a horizontal Directive Systems 45-el loop yagi fed with 23 feet of LMR-400. The yagi was resonant at 1289 MHz out of the box, but I managed to get it down a bit by manipulating the drive and reflector element. Still show a somewhat high SWR at 1269. But it works.
